Swim lessons

Swim little fishy swim
I am happy to report that my flesh is thouroughly in tact. I do not have a mark on me. Lily is fairing swimming lessons pretty well. I will not say she likes it, but she is tolerating it. The first day she clung to me and would not let go. Her little arms for the most part were wrapped tightly around my neck the entire time. Today was day 3 however and she walked in the water on her own and I even saw a smile. Every morning I ask her if she would like to go swimming and the face below is the one I get without fail. You will have to be the judge but I am pretty sure she knows that swimming is not her thing just yet.

Going Better

Wanna Smooch?

So the worst of our bad news seems to be over and summer is rolling on. My mom is feeling much better. I have come to terms with the fact that Lily will need tubes in her ears and can now look at it through the perspective that lots of kids have this procedure done and thank god we found a fixable problem. Lily will be seeing a speech therapist 2 times a month. Which I am very excited about. She was really nice and extremely good with Lily. The whole idea just took me a moment to adjust. I needed to shift my outlook. A lot was going on at once and I felt like I was sinking, then I remembered that I could swim. So now we are swimming along and navigating the waters fine. Speaking of navigating the waters I am taking the plunge. I have avoided swimming lessons this year for fear it would be alot of screaming and twisting of my flesh, but I have decided to do it anyways. Lily has decided that she will tolerate the water if we make her. So wish me luck! Here are a few pictures of our recent fun.
Look at my feet!

This is my big cousin Sophia isn't she the coolest!

Happy girl after a day at the park.

I've been tagged

I received a very fun note from Jen this morning "tagging" me! So, today's post will be all about me :-)Here's what I have been "tagged" to do:1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.2. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they have been tagged, and to read your blog.

#1. At age 17 I dyed my hair green with a pack of kool aid and went around town with my friends. At that age I was super skinny, not attractive skinny, just bony and I was tall for my age. So I got nicknamed the Jolly Green Giant. Luckily my friends who followed me through the years have let that go :)

#2. I am obsessed with the sun. I love it. I love tan skin and feel so much happier during these months. And even think my clothes fit better. If I could live anywhere it would be where the sun shines year round.

#3. I met one of my dearest friends in college. We are both tall and have similar sense of fashion and used to wear our hair the same. We lived together for around 4 years while we finished college and moved here to Sacramento together. People used to mistake us for twins quite often. One day at a restaurant the waitress was checking our IDS and asked if we were twins. She was looking at our different birth dates. Glad she was taking orders and not performing brain surgery. Oh the good old days, how I miss two closets.

#4. I am working on being more assertive. I am a people pleaser and want people to like me. My new goal is to tell others what I think and learn to stand up for myself so I can be a better person for me and a better mom to Lily. So if I disagree with you, know deep down I am cringing.

#5. I am secretly pretty okie. I grew up in the country. My dad built our house and we lived in a trailer for many years. My dad often apologizes for the way we lived, but I am so grateful for those memories. At the shower in the trailer there was a pipe that led up the wall. Frogs hung out on the pipe, as a kid I thought it was super cool that I got to shower with frogs. My parents were struggling to make ends meet and we had very little, but I knew I was loved and cherished by my family and didn't feel I needed anything. One of my favorite stories we will just call 4-H. My brother raised a pig for 4-H and we had no way to transport the pig so my dad took the front seat out of our Volkswagen bug and transported him that way. The pig chewed on the dash and my mother could have spit venom. I could write a book of my memories.

#6. I hate to cook. I wish I could just whip something up in the kitchen but without a recipe I am a fish without water. My husband does all the cooking in the family. When I open the refrigerator I see nothing even if I just went shopping. I will do the dishes any day over cooking a meal.

#7. My husband and I went to high school together and were even in his brothers wedding together. I had no attraction to him nor he to me. He went off to Washington and I went off to college and we saw each other at a BBQ years later and there was electricity. His girlfriend was with him and I barely spoke to him but boy did I think he was hot. He went back to Washington and I went back to life, but we could not stop thinking about each other. A year later he he got laid off and came home to California and the first thing he did was have my current sister in law set us up. 11 short months later we were married and he was unemployed. My parents were having a heart attack but when you know, you know. He is now a working member of society and we are happily married, sometimes you must take a leap of faith, but if Lily thinks she is marrying a unemployed man she has got another thing coming :)

#8. I am a secret clutter bug. I don't see how you all keep your houses so clean. My house is by no means dirty, but I need someone to come and tell me where to put things. Papers pile up, receipts get stacked, toys get strewn. My classroom is the same as my house. The good lord forgot to put organizational skills in my package.

Summer Bummer

So we have hit a roadblock in our summer fun! My parents, Lily and I were supposed to go on a cruise to Hawaii. But my mom is sick. She had to have her gal bladder removed which is supposed to be a out patient surgery, but there were complications and it ended up being a way more serious surgery than it was supposed to be. My poor mom was supposed to see no sight of a hospital bed and has been there for 5 long days now. I miss her being up the street and Lil and I visiting whenever we feel like it. So consequently we are not going to Hawaii. We were supposed to leave on the 22nd. So now Lily and I will be here for some bachelor fun. My husband planned on livin it up while the girls were away. So now the girls will be here for all the bachelor festivities.
Lily and I also went to see the audiologist to see why she is using pointing and grunting as her only form of communication and she said it looked like she has fluid in her ears and to go see my pediatrician. So we went to the doctor yesterday and there is fulid in her right ear and she will most likely need tubes in that ear. He wants to wait a month before sending us to a surgeon. Today we are going to the speech therapist. Wish us luck. I need some good news right now.

Friends

Lily went to her friend Chase's 2nd birthday party. Chase also happens to be from Guatemala. They were really cute together. Lily followed Chase around with his birthday dump truck. She didn't seem to want the dump truck just wanted to see where Chase was headed.

Hey what you guys keep in here?

That is a very nice tank!

Here let me try.

This is my Auntie Monica. I love her collection of shoes. Someday she will help me search out the perfect prom dress :)

4th of July and more.............

The fourth of July was pretty uneventful around here. Usually we have a big bash in the neighborhood, but it just seemed to fizzle out this year. I had plans to take Lily to see the fireworks, but Lily is having sleep issues. So really I have no desire to mess with her little schedule right now. We are having to let the girl cry herself to sleep which we have never had to do before. Her normal sleep pattern is that we lay her in bed with her blanket and bottle and she just drifts off to dream land. However at the moment she starts getting worked up around the time we walk into the kitchen and I have to peel her from my body. She has got quite the grip! Then she cries anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 hour. It is getting better we just have to let her figure it out. So back to the fourth. We put Lily down around noon and she woke up around 2 in a mood. About 15 minutes later she got this terrible bloody nose. Lily has always had bloody noses and usually they are no big deal, but a few of them have been horror film ready. So we had a horror film bloody nose and she was all worked up so she was inhaling and choking on and coughing up blood and I was ready to spend some time in the ER, but the advice nurse said to let it run its course. If she was still bleeding after 20 minutes we could take her. Does her little body hold 20 minutes worth of pouring blood. After 15 minutes things calmed down but our holiday outfits were ruined :( After the drama settled we went to our friends house with Lily in tow for a BBQ sans our BBQ wear and had a good time and Lily charmed her audience. In the end we had a nice time. Better luck next year in scaring our darling with fireworks.

Some Pics of our summer fun!
Stuey wanted in the other day and I found him with this paper bag handle around his neck and lord knows what in his mouth. The days of sleepy Stuey are now over he has a motor that just keeps running and he is QUICK!
Really mom isn't this the only way to finish off a bowl of Cheerios!
For father's day daddy got a pool. I was against the pool because it is going to destroy our lawn but it is well worth the fun, its not very pretty but the fun outways the look. Lily has despised cold water. She stiffens up her body and screams, but Peter and I are fish so we are on a mission to toughen her up. I am rather squimish about making her do things she doesn't want to do so Peter took charge as I cringed nearby.

Here is Lily tolerating being near the water. See daddy trying to convince her that she is happy!

And a treat for the brave girl!

And look at her now! Yesterday I got in the pool and called Lily. She came to the edge of the pool and put her arms up. Tada we have a new little fish on our hands. What a big girl.

Thanks Daddy this is fun!
