Accident Prone!

Today was a day prone to accidents. This morning I got a text message that Lily had been doing some shopping of the local adds and when she got up she slipped on said adds and bumped her face on the ottoman. She got a black eye and a scrape on her cheek. My mom assured me that she was in good spirits she just looked worse for the wear.

Then 15 minutes later I get another phone call. It is my mom again and she said Lily needs stitches. I couldn't quite figure out how a bump from earlier could lead to the needing of stitches but I said I would call her back. My boss came to take over my class and I drove home. I live 5 minutes from work. It was the longest five minutes of my life. I still was unclear about what had happened. I walked in to find my baby laying in my moms lap. She had quite the cut on her forhead but she was very subdued. I was already on the phone with the doctor. Lily started throwing up and so I told the lady at the doctors office we were heading for the emergency room. I couldn't tell how bad the cut was because the bleeding had stopped and it was drying, but I know enough to know that throwing up with a head trauma is not a good situation. So we drove to the ER.

The doctor was able to use glue on her cut so she should not have too bad of a scar and she is on watch for a concussion but she seems fine. She is very alert and remembers who we are and all her body parts and such. I am going to leave the details of how the accident came to be private as my mom already feels terrible without me advertising the events on the internet. The day is now a little over half done wish me luck that we can stay surefooted the rest of the day!

tamales and Pow wows

Recently we have been to a few cultural events in our area. First we went to an Indian Pow wow. The real deal with Native American Indians in their full tribal wear dancing. The weather was hot but Lily was very interested in their outfits and she loved the beat of the music. She danced around and was very sweet. She also got her first taste of a snow cone which she thouroughly enjoyed. She had no problem with the coolness on her tongue. Her lips and teeth were stained red.

Our next stop was the Tamale festival here in town. Yummy!!!!!!!!! I must say my tamales this year need some work. Last year they were a little bland so the tamale festival encouraged me to add more spice. I make tamales for Lily's birthday parties. They are a work in progress. Lily didn't care for the tamales but my oh my did she like the corn.

And last but not least my girl has got the beat. I played the flute as a child but could not progress past a certain point because I am rythmically challenged so I became so frustrated with the tick tocking of the metronome I had to quit. But my little one claps and pats her leg to almost any beat. A musical instrument may be in her future.
I just feel like dancing!

Hi ho hi ho its off to work I go

So if you are wondering about the length of time between blogs I have gone back to work. The first week was hard on the two of us, but we are both doing much better now. Lily would not let me put her down the first half of the week. She wanted to be in my arms while I cooked, ate, did dishes she just seemed to need all around reassurance that I was still in existance after leaving her for so many hours. She now seems to understand that I am coming back and we are rolling along with her routine. It is much easier now that she only takes one nap because she is refreshed when I get there and so far she has been able to love both Nonnie and I. Last year she was mad at one of us when I came to get her. She would either smack me or her Nonnie as I left. She couldn't seem to show us both affection at the same time.

Lily has been going to speech therapy and I don't know how much twice a month could really do for her but she is beginning to use her words. I am so proud of her, my heart swells as I hear her little voice tell us what she wants. I just have to include a list of the words she knows: more, up, down, night night, bye, cow, woof, dog, kitty, meow, apple, all done, booty (as in pirates booty, thank you daddy :), and at speech therapy yesterday she used her first sentence. She said more bubbles. I am so sad I missed it. Speech therapy is a daddy Lily adventure.

Lily loves animals. On top of loving animals her little spirit loves to be in control. I can not give our dog a walk while Lily is awake because it ends in a tantrum followed by a dog chase. My mom's dog however is older and will tolerate a walk from a toddler.

Recently Peter and I took Lily to the fair. Our main purpose was to show her the animals. We wanted her to get to see a real live cow instead of just the one drawn on the milk carton. The animals went over big. In this picture if you look closely Lily's mouth is formed in a little o because she is letting us know she is not quite ready to leave the cows.

Nothing like ice cream at the fair! Lily is still not sure she likes the cool feel of ice cream. She took a few bites and then told us all done. If it is cheesecake though watch out. That's mama's girl.

I wish this had turned out to be a better picture. Lily decided that she wanted to pick out her outfit so she handed me a shirt and said on. I put her shirt on and then she picked out another shirt and started to take off her shoes (we always have shoes on, we even try to wear them to bed) so that I would put her shirt on like pants. I tried to help her pick out some pants but was told no! And mama has learned to pick her battles, so I put her second shirt on. She was happy as could be wearing 2 shirts and no pantsAnd here is my pantsless girl helping Papa install the garbage disposal.

Tantrums and Tahoe

No one warned me the 2 phase would start early!

These last few weeks Lily has been entering the rights of passage to her second year. My once all to agreeable baby is becoming a full fledge toddler-esk little being. She now throws herself on the floor and cries for no apparent reason and if I walk away from the tantrum she follows me room to room. It is really quite amusing. My mom was over the other day and I was at the back of the house where Lily layed herself at my feet. I left that room and walked out to the kitchen and my darling little one ran down the hallway passed her Nonnie smiling and then planted herself on the floor in front of me and started her tantrum once again. And yes to all of you who have met her I do mean that quiet angelic little girl pictured at the top of this page. Those photos are of picture day where Lily exercised the right to say "no" and speak her mind. All qualities I am happy that she possesses!?! I love this new challenge I am not complaining. I always thought that I would love the baby stage the best. That stage where fixing there problems consisted of a bottle or a diaper change. But I must say this new stage far surpasses the last. She just keeps getting more fun with each new stage. So wish me luck that I survive 2 tantrums and all! And to all of you currently parenting one of these independent little creatures I drink my margarita as the little one rests her eyes and bid you cheers!

In this photo I caught the telltale scent that told me that ones diapers must be changed. I told Lily where we were going and she ran into my bedroom and got into Stuey's dog crate. Which is made for a 8-12 pound dog not my petite 22 1/2 (the half is important) pound beauty.

Peter and I took our first away trip just the two of us since the arrival of Miss Sassy pants. We had a wonderful time. We went to Tahoe for the night and even won 162 dollars with 2 pulls on a slot machine! My first win ever. The below pictures are some self portraits of our time together. When we got home sassy was very glad to see us. We even had our first phone conversation where she said hi and bye.

Playdate fun!

In the recent weeks we have been out and about playing with friends. We traveled to Pleasanton where we met with another Guatemalan princess named Dani and had some water fun. Then we traveled to the family fun park in Vacaville where we met with our very cute friend Justice. I am soaking up every moment of mommy fun as summer winds down. I haven't let myself contemplate going back to work just yet, but I know I am going to have to start getting myself prepared in the next few weeks. Lily and I have had so much fun together and I feel that we have truly had some bonding magic happen.
This is my friend Diana and her cutie pie Daniela.

Here are the girls learning a little bit about sharing. Dani was very nice about letting us get drinks of water.

Here are the brave girls in the water. Dani likes the water and Lily forgot she doesn't and followed Dani right in. She was in the water all the way up to her chest at one point. Maybe simming lessons were worth the effort.

Lily rather liked this horse and even though sweat was forming along her hairline she was not ready to give up her spot on the rocking horse.

This is our super cute friend Justice. He will be 2 next month. He and lily had fun together!

My little one has an insatiable appetite at the moment. Every 20 minutes or so she is telling me eat, eat. I think I may have ignored her current request so she took matters into her own hands.
