Hodge podge

At the beginning of this school year I started running.

I started out by waking up at an ungodly hour and running in my neighborhood.

After running into some unsavory looking characters

in the dark of the night/morning and then a run in with a skunk

I decided that perhaps running before dawn breaks in my urban neighborhood might no be the best of plans soooo.....I quit running.

After a rather long hiatus from my excersize routine I joined a gym.

I used the app from couch to 5K.

I am now running 3.2 miles in about 35 minutes.

So I am certainly not fast

and I haven't gotten to the point that I think running is fun but

I am proud of myself and will be running in an actual 5K in the middle of April.
I will have to say I like how the running is shaping my doughy body

and after the run is finished I feel wonderful!!!!

In November Peter broke his thumb.

He was crawling in the attic trying to resolve a certain rodent problem.

His very beautiful smart funny rather cheap wife

made him climb in there.

He fell and broke his thumb and then our house smelled of rotting rodents.

His wife learned her lesson and will fork out any amount of money to exterminate rodents for the rest of her life!

Anyways his broken bone is stubbornly not healing.

I've joked with my friends about how I need a wife.

Someone to cook for me, do my cleaning, go to the grocery store

you know all those chores that seem to ruin my two days off.

Well

I'm here to announce I didn't need a wife

I desperatly needed a house husband.

I am so incredibly spoiled.

Peter is on disability and he is the best house husband ever.

I was told last night at a birthday party that I don't have a house husband

I have a good husband

They are right he is pretty awesome.

He should be going back to work April 1st.

I'll be happy to be getting a regular pay check again but it will be a rough transition.

Ahhhh my beautiful niece.

I adore calling this little one my niece.

And Lily likes to play big cousin.

We went to the zoo.

Kaya's first visit.

Lily could care less about the animals

She got to push the stroller.

She was really good about making sure Kaya could see them though.

It was pretty sweet.

On a side note.

Kaya has really dark eyes like Lily.

Lily told me that Kaya has magic black eyes like hers

Black eyes are magic because they can see things no one else can:0)

I love my girl!!

On Friday there was a Humpty Dumpty egg drop at school.

The "Kindergarteners" got to "design" a project.

Peter was very excited about "her" project.

Here goes.........

It broke.
Oh well....




Kindergarten has been a rather disappointing year.

Lily's teacher is an extremely nice person.

I like her very much but,

classroom management is not her fortay.

Learning new information is not easy for Lily.

This classroom environment is not right for her.

She is lost in the mix.

I have seen very little progress this year.

I am so thankful for the good education she got last year.

She basically already did Kinder once.

We are very lucky in that regard.

I went to a birthday party yesterday and found out lots of information about first grade.

It sounds as if we will have a better year next year.

I am soooo happy to hear this!!

One more funny story before I go for who knows how long :0)
A few months ago Lily came home
She was very animated and excited
She said, "Mommy did you know I don't speak spanish?!?
I said, "yes honey I did know that."
(insert mommy guilt here)
She said, "A teacher came up to me and was talking in spanish and I told her I have no idea what you are talking about!
Hopefully said teacher learned a lesson about making assumptions. I just thought that her response was so honest and quite hilarious!

The other day Lily was supposed to get her spring pictures taken at school.

We went to Target picked out a new outfit tried it on to make sure it was stamped with

the Lily stamp of approval. I'm not quite sure who told her

she should have an opinion about such things

but an opinion is an understatement when it comes to clothes.

Anyways I digress

so the day of pictures we wake up

I'm making her breakfast getting ready to do her hair when suddenly there

is a crying noise coming from the couch.

When I come around to see what has gone awry I see her nose is bleeding.

In our household this is a common occurrence and not a big deal.

I get a towel for her and we sit trying to stop the blood.

we sit and sit and sit.

By the time Peter awakes from his slumber we have sat for 15 minutes.

Then it becomes clear this is not going to stop anytime soon.

I start to wonder how much blood my daughter can loose.

It is a GUSHER.

She soaks through three towels and we get on the phone with the advice nurse.

The nurse politely tells us this is no big deal.

We get off the phone.

Then she starts throwing up blood.

Now my level headed brain tells me she has just swallowed blood.

My mommy less level headed brain starts freaking out.

This does not feel normal its been 45 minutes.

I make Peter call back the advice nurse who tells us my level headed brain is right.

Soooooo.......

Really long story I know

I'm almost done.

Her nose finally stops bleeding.

I tell Peter she should go to school because she missed 4 days the week before.

So off to school they go.

Just in case you ever wondered blood does not digest well.

While in line waiting for her classmates to get their pictures taken she threw up again.

So home she came.

We received the picture proofs

needless to say I've never seen my girl look so green

or so pathetic she tried with all her might to be cooperative

but the way she felt is written all over her poor little face.

So this weekend we found ourselves with weather in the high 70's

perfect time to take my new lens out for a spin

I'd say my new lens is my new favorite toy.

These pictures are better than any school pictures.

They capture my beautiful girl

as she is.

Just a Guatemodel doin some chores

it ain't no big thang

And after all that modeling and slave driving

nothing like a little manicure.

And just a note I have the best husband ever.

He squirreled away money for months and

bought me the lens I've wanted for ever.

This time we did it right

everything about the lens is just perfect.

Can't wait for hours of endless summer days to practice practice practice.

Valentines Celebration

I was told I was not allowed to call this day a party

Apparently you have to have cake in

order to properly call something a party.

So we had a small celebration with three of our girlie friends.

We made heart shaped pizzas.

Had some heart shaped fruit.

How cute is that!

Lily showed off one of her favorite Christmas gifts.

Then we ran around and around and around the house

squealing at a pitch only girls can make.

when the running was over we took a much needed break

for some heart shaped cookies.

Then we exchanged some valentines

and posed for pictures.

It was a really fun party...

er....

I mean celebration.

OMG we are still here!

Nothing very exciting going on in the world of the Delap's.

It's been pretty mundane since Christmas.

But we do like to fill our evenings with a little fun.

We've been watching A LOT of the Nikelodeon show

Kung Fu Panda.

It is actually very cute even if I dislike all the commercials on Nikelodeon.

So we've had some nightly karate matches.

That's Master Tigresses game face.

Even the scariest of Tigresses must take cover once in awhile.


After collecting oneself it's in for the battle.

Looks like Shifu may have won this one

watch those mommy kicks they're lethal.

We've also been enjoying some super spring like weather.

Mother nature has something up her sleeve I have no doubt

but for now it is sure is nice to have the sun.

Jaxton thought it was good enough to dive right in!

We are hosting a valentine party soon.

I'm sure I'll take plenty of pictures and be back very soon!

Christmas Day

Santa was good to Miss Lily Pie.

He left her a letter thanking her for taking care of

Rosie the Elf.

Santa knows how much Lily loves scavenger hunts

so he and Rosie hid her stocking and

wrote her some clues.

And she found it like a pro!

Thank you Santa!

This walking puppy was the coveted gift.

I got in trouble more than once for not purchasing it while in Target.

Santa and I had a plan!

Wally and Stuey both got in on the action.

They stay in our garage during the day.

The gifts were hidden in the garage.

They got into them and chewed the boxes of several gifts.

They got to give the gifts they chewed on.

Luckily no gifts were harmed during their signing.

After breakfast Lily sat and played with the two hits of Christmas!

we layed around just the 3 of us all day.

It was perfect!

Christmas Eve

We had a wonderful Christmas Eve.

Peter's brother and family came down from Oregon to visit.

They were with us for four lovely days.

We started Christmas Eve by making tamales.

Auntie Nalii is a wonderful cook.

I was not going to let her get away without teaching Lily and I some tricks.

Lily didn't need a lesson this year.

She is a tamale pro.

Once the tamales were steaming

we had some idle time.

Lily and Sophia decorated the gingerbread train.

Lily gave everyone make overs the night before.
Including her big cousin Kai.
Who at first said no way,
but he's a softy and relented to the disappointment
in his little cousins eyes.
We spared him some embarrassment and didn't take a single picture.

Lucky for Auntie Nalii the make up made its way back to it's normal resting place

on an extrmemly high shelf.

So Auntie Nalii got a make over with lip gloss.

Much more pleasing to the eye!

Pretty pretty princess!

A friendly nerf gun war broke out.

After we filled up on tamales it was present time.

Then the real fun began!

We took a limo ride

to look at christmas lights.
What is a christmas lights tour without

treats!

Lily and Sophia enjoyed the view.

Hmmm.......

Lily and Kai spent most of the evening together.

There is just something so sweet about this teenager

playing with his teeny tiny cousin.

What a perfect night!
